Make the Most of Mud Season at A-Basin

May 5, 2018 / By: Julie Howsmon

When all other resorts have called it a season and said their goodbyes, Arapahoe Basin remains open for those who simply are not ready to trade in their skis for mountain bikes. A-Basin is a short, 35-minute drive from Breckenridge and beckons all spring skiers and beach loungers.

Starting in mud season and continuing through summer, you can join a variety of bands every Saturday, for Shakin’ at the Basin – always family friendly and a guaranteed good time! Boot, scoot, and boogie on down to Mountain Goat Plaza for the live tunes!

No car? No problem!

The Summit Stage runs throughout Summit County and is free! Catch a ride by checking out their website, for more information.

On Saturday, May 12, A-Basin will host the 3rd Annual Swimwear Day and Spring Rail Jam. Swimwear, on the mountain? Yes, you heard right! Wear your swimsuit to the ski area and be sure to pack sunscreen to protect your skin after a long winter! When you check in at the A-Basin tent to strut your (family friendly) suit, you will receive a raffle ticket and be entered to win a Never Summer snowboard!

Have you been practicing your park tricks all season long? Also on May 12, is the Spring Rail Jam at no cost to you! This is a free contest to win prizes by showing your skills at A-Basin’s Treeline Terrain Park!

If you have not perfected your terrain park skills by May 12, not to worry! You will have another shot at bragging rights and prizes on May 27.

Closing out the month of May with a bang, on there is another rail competition as well as a Festival of Brewpubs!

After a morning of shredding in the park, head down to Mountain Goat Plaza to sample beers from over a dozen participating breweries!

Mugs for the festival can be purchased ahead of time for $35, which is recommended as they have sold out in the past!

Old School R&B and funky tunes will be provided by Mojomama. This Colorado band is heading up to A-Basin from Longmont on the front range to jam out while you sip your suds!

Contrary to popular belief, there are activities and events in mud season! Summer will be here before we know it, so make the most of this upcoming month!
