Everyone makes the team in a pick-up game. Whether you are looking to burn a few extra calories or maintain your game at top notch level; Breckenridge offers a wide variety of pick-up and drop-in sports games. Pick-up games harken back to our playground days when the number one priority was to have fun! Check out some great local games we have here in Breckenridge to keep you and your kids active while you are in the high country.
Hockey (Indoor) – Hockey is big in Breckenridge. The recently remodeled Stephen C. West Ice arena is the venue, bring your skates and stick or rent everything you need at the arena. Enjoy stick and puck sessions to hone your skills or stop by on Thursdays and Fridays for drop-in hockey sessions designated for pick-up games. They have sessions for both men and women’s drop-in hockey. Grab your skates, it’s time to practice that slap shot. Check the schedule HERE.
Basketball (Indoor) – Whether you already have a group of friends together or you are just on a solo mission to work on your 3-point shot, Breckenridge has court. Both the Breckenridge and Silverthorne rec centers offer drop-in basketball or ‘open gym’ times when a good pickup game is easy to find. Be warned: playing a full court game at an elevation of 9,000+ feet is quite the lung-busting workout. Find some open gym time and go put some shots up. Best days for finding a pick-up game are Mondays and Thursdays. The gym schedule can be found HERE.
Tennis (Indoor) – Tennis is a big sport in Breckenridge and Summit County. While you are less likely to find a traditional pick-up tennis game, you can grab a partner, volley back and forth or grab 3 partners and play a doubles game. The court is operated as a fee per hour court, so be sure to make reservations and check pricing information HERE.
Rock Climbing (Indoor) – If rock climbing is more your variety, not to worry. While not a traditional pick-up type sport, there is always a friendly, inclusive crowd hanging out at the Breckenridge rec center rock wall. With a bouldering section and an adjacent sport climbing section, you are sure to find something to suit your abilities. Whether you need a belay partner for a challenging sport route or just a spotter as you boulder around, you will find some like-minded climbers hanging out at the rock wall. It is an indoor rock wall at the recreation center and is subject to rec center hours of operation. A schedule can be found .
A little spontaneous physical activity is good for the mind and body. Call ahead or simply drop by; Breckenridge is sure to have a pick-up game to get your blood pumping in the high country.
