Spring Break Activities for Kids!

It’s March in Breckenridge and that means spring break is back. All over the country schools shut down for a week and for many that means the annual pilgrimage to Breckenridge and Summit County is almost here! You’ve been waiting all winter for it and now, your annual spring adventure is about to begin. Although snow pretty much provides plenty of activities for kids on its own, we thought now would be a great time to share some of our favorite spring time kid friendly activities in Breckenridge. Let’s face it, kids need constant action to have fun on a vacation, so keep reading to find out how to keep your little one busy with these great ideas!

Ski school: Spring break in Breckenridge means skiing and snowboarding and we all want to get some turns in. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little time without the kids to rip up some advanced terrain. What better way to create this win-win situation? Set the kids up for a ski school lesson! Your kids will have fun advancing their skills and you will get to enjoy your time crushing terrain that is not the bunny hill. Breckenridge Ski and Ride School offers a wide variety of options for both ski and snowboard lessons from ½ day group classes to multi day privates. Get your kids signed up and get out on the hill!

Tubing: Tubing is sledding on big inter-tubes taken to a new level. With lift service and huge hills, tubing in Summit County is an action sport all its own. It is one of the most exhilarating winter activities that is good for kids of almost all ages. There are two great locations to check out. The Adventure Park in Frisco is a great multi lane tubing hill that allows children of all ages (there is only a height restriction of 36″!) with lift service up the hill. Another option would be the tubing hill at Keystone’s Adventure Point. This tubing hill may be a bit daunting for little kids but offers a thrill ride like no other in Summit County.

Ice Skating: If there is a more classic family winter activity, please share! Ice skating is a time honored winter tradition for many. Breckenridge offers year-round skating for families at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. They offer and outdoor rink most of the year as well as an indoor rink year round. Don’t want to pack your own skates? No problem! The ice rink offers rentals, lessons and more. The ice rinks are located just on the south end of town and are easily accessible by car and bus.

Snowshoeing/Nordic skiing: If you are looking to get a little cardio in and really tucker out the little ones while visiting Breckenridge do it outside! The whole family can try snowshoeing and Nordic Skiing and Breckenridge offers two wonderful courses to try. The Breckenridge Nordic Center is located on Ski Hill Road near the Peak 8 Base Area and offers skiing and snowshoeing in the Cucumber Gulch area. The Gold Run Nordic Center is located out by the golf course and is a great Nordic ski area for beginners.

Breckenridge Arts District: One of the newest additions to Breckenridge’s portfolio of activities is the Breckenridge Arts District. The Breckenridge Arts District has become an all-encompassing part of the town and offers a whole slew of creative activities. From performances at the Riverwalk Center to open house sessions, popular artists and offering classes in all kinds of arts and trades including ceramics, lampworking, songwriting, silver-smithing, herbal apothecary, you will surely be able to find something the whole family can enjoy! The main part of the arts district is a little collection of studios up on Ridge Street where guest artists come and put on shows of their art. It’s a great place to check out and close to everything.

Rec Center: Need some pool time or want to do a little rock climbing? Looking for some tennis or a good workout? Hit up the Breckenridge Rec Center! The Breckenridge Rec Center offers all this and much more. The Breckenridge Rec Center is the perfect place for a diverse and active family. There really is something for everyone at the Breckenridge Rec Center.

Movies: A movie is a great way to decompress from all of the exciting activities there are in Breckenridge. Maybe take a little time to relax and take in a first run movie. There is the Speakeasy Theater in Breckenridge that shows first run movies and also offers adult beverages. For a wider selection of movies try the Skyline Cinema in Dillon. Skyline is a traditional theater offering 8 movies at a time.

So if you are in need of activities to keep the kids happy while visiting on Spring Break never fear. Breckenridge offers all kinds of things for kiddos to do.
